It is with great pleasure to introduce to our valued Wine Club members a very special Old Block Cellar Release Gift pack to honour 40 years of producing the Old Block Shiraz. The Old Block Gift Pack includes:
The Planted Series is a tribute to the centenarian vines from Barossa and to the growers who have nurtured them. It is because of their experience as world class viticulturists that these vines produce exceptional quality. The 2015 vintage release celebrates the Noack family, sixth generation Barossa farmers, who have tended these vines for three decades.
Sourced from the rich deep clay soils of Northern Barossa, in the parishes of Ebenezer, Greenock and Moppa Hills. A wine that represents the unique history of Barossa Shiraz, strong, bold and muscular, much like the great oxen used to plough the ancient Australian soils.
Originally from the St Hallett Old Block vineyard this wine was first made by Robert O’Callaghan and Stuart Blackwell in 1980. To qualify for Old Block Shiraz the vineyards must be planted on their own rootstock and be more than 50 years old. The oldest vineyard used to create the 2016 Old Block was planted in 1856 whilst the youngest 1963, with an average of 92 years.
As a master of Barossa Shiraz we recognise the diversity within the region. This wine represents the higher altitude and cooler climate of the Eden Valley. A Syrah distinctive of the sub-region showcasing elegance and finesse sourced exclusively from the high country.
The wine was first released in 1994, in honour of Stuart Blackwell, winemaker for more than three decades and a tireless contributor to the St Hallett story. The fruit is sourced predominately from Northern Barossa with the red brown clay soils creating wines with hallmark characteristics of black plum, cherries and dark chocolate.
