2017 Poacher's Blend
The Barossa experienced a long wet winter with above average rainfall. Shoot growth was very slow due to cold wet soils but a mild spring and ample soil moisture allowed the vines to develop strong canopies. Temperatures through January and February were ideal with two well-timed bursts of rain to help maintain vine health. March was warm and dry providing ideal ripening conditions to the end. The cool nights and mild days provided ideal conditions for pure wines with lifted delicate aromatics.
Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes are sourced from both Eden Valley (69%) and the Barossa Valley (31%). Each vineyard is vinified separately with a long and cool fermentation which lasts between 20 and 25 days. All effort is made to handle the grapes, juice and wine with great care to retain the delicate and expressive fruit characters this wine is famous for.
Semillon provides the structure of this wine, showing tropical fruits, poached pear, peach and guava. The herbaceous lift of Sauvignon Blanc is complimented with a twist of lemon zest provided by the Riesling.
