2018 Higher Earth Syrah
GOLD medal - 2021 Royal Adelaide Wine Show
Good winter rains in July and August preceded a warm and dry spring with no frosts or storms. Budburst and shoot growth were strong and ideal weather at flowering allowed for excellent set. Ripening was steady allowing for the development of fine tannins and intense colour.
The fruit is sourced in individual parcels from four Eden Valley vineyards. Each parcel is harvested individually, depending on fruit readiness and treated individually in the winery. All fermentations are carried out at relatively cool temperatures ~ 22-24°C to maintain vibrancy and freshness, with average skin contact time between eight to ten days. Once the wines have finished fermentation they are transferred to French oak for between nine to twelve months, depending on the parcel.
A vibrant and aromatic bouquet full of violets, blackcurrant and dark cherries with an underlying hint of pepper and spice.
A complex and elegant Syrah. Beautifully balanced with dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit characters with layers of black pepper spice and a hint of cedar oak. All elements are seamlessly integrated with lovely long and polished tannins leading to a sublime and persistent finish.
