2019 Higher Earth Syrah
GRAPE VARIETY: Shiraz
COLOUR: Deep garnet with purple hues.
NOSE: A complex and powerful nose with intense blackberry and black pepper, complemented by notes of violet and graphite aromatics.
PALATE: A bold and tightly wound palate displaying blackberry fruits, dark cherry and black pepper. The wine has a grippy chalk-like tannin profile, with a bold, textural mid-palate and a balanced, persistent length. Both elegant and bold, this wine is enjoyable now but will improve with careful cellaring over the next decade.
VINEYARD REGION: Eden Valley
VINTAGE CONDITION: The 2019 vintage was one of the driest we have experienced. Below average, winter rainfall, coupled with a dry spring and summer resulted in naturally lower yields across the vineyards. These conditions resulted in rich and concentrated wines, although low in quantity.
WINE MAKING: Some of 2019's finest Eden Valley parcels were selected from a range of Eden Valley growers. Each parcel was treated individually in the winery, with some fermented with 10% whole bunch and others wild fermented. All ferments were conducted at 26°C and left on skins up to 14 days. Maturation occurred in a mix of French oak puncheons and hogsheads (25% new with balance 1-3 years old). The wine was then matured in oak for 14-16 months, dependent on the requirements of each unique parcel.
